NSWHSA Conference

We started off term 3 at the NSW Hospital Schools Assocation (NSWHSA) Conference. It was a fantastic two-day conference engaging in relevant and current professional learning.

One highlight was the opportunity to network with our colleagues at the conference dinner. Another was making music together! We learned a capoeira chant which used both sides of our brains when layering a beat on the drum to a chant with a contrasting rhythm.

Liverpool Girl's High School Art Program

Students of Liverpool Girl's High School and Liverpool Hospital School meet together every fortnight to particpate in an art therapy program. This term kicks off a new project.

After brainstorming ideas, the girls have come up with a fantastic solution to meet the needs of the students at Liverpool Hospital School. They're putting their talent to good use and creating an activity booklet for the students of the Hospital School, especially those who are delivered education bedside or are in isolation.

Bullying. NO WAY!

Liverpool Hospital School led the Children's ward in education on the National Day for Action Against Bullying. The school invited Senior Constable Rachel Kennedy to speak to our community about bullying and its effects on others.

The classroom ran a program called bouncing back from online bullying directed by the e-Safety Commissioner partnering with Headspace. Students were able to explore strategies for dealing with bullying. They created Anti-bullying posters and were met by Spider-Man who gave them great dvice about warding off all evil...including bullies!!

My Chinese Teacher

Liverpool Hospital School were lucky enough to experience a taste of China and there was no better time to immerse ourselves than during the Lunar New Year!

We had so much fun, this year we will be visitng China every Wednesday.

Our lessons are delivered to our classroom, or to a computer if you're working from bed. The teacher is in China and contacts us over video conferencing technology. We explore the language and culture and engage in a variety of games and activities to inspire learning.

2019 school budget allocations

Like all NSW public schools, this week we will receive a School Budget Allocation Report with our funding for 2019. The report will help us manage our total budget delivered through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM).

The RAM supports schools through needs-based funding to ensure a fair, efficient and transparent allocation of funds. Our school has the flexibility to make local decisions based on the specific needs of our students.

We will use our 2019 funding to support students and improve educational outcomes. The school executive will continue to work with the school community as we implement the school plan using this needs-based funding.

Children's Week 2018

Every year Liverpool Hospital School together with our Paediatric Team celebrate Children's Week in the Paediatric Ward.

This year we chose 5 rights from the United Nation's Rights of the Child to create themes for each day of Children's Week.

On the Monday we celebrated the child's right to speak with a movie theme dress-up; nurses fashion parade (costumes designed by our patients/students) and a debate nurses vs students on cyber-safety topics.

Tuesday was the right to be healthy where the Dental Team and the Healthy Lunchbox program visited our school and educated our families on oral hygiene and how to choose healthy options for their lunchbox. There was also a blind taste-testing competition with nursing staff and patients which was won by two student doctors.

On Wednesday we celebrated the right to play with a community BBQ and visits from the Active Kids program, Go4Fun, our Police Youth Liaison Officers and a performance from Liverpool Boys High School.

Thursday was the child's right to discover where we ran a program on self-discovery and Friday was the child's right to be safe where we painted the ward red to acknowledge the Day for Daniel Morcombe as well as educate on cyber-safety with our Police Youth Liaison Officers in attendance. It was a fantastic week full of positive experiences for the entire Paediatric Ward.

ThinkerShield Museum of Applied Arts and Science (MAAS)

We are extremely excited and appreciative of the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences (MAAS) and the Western Sydney Coding Club in supporting our school through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) learning in the classroom.

Staff at Liverpool Hospital School engaged in professional learning which developed their skills in guiding students in physical computing using the ThinkerShield. This training was extended to our Community of Schools and resulted in collaboration with Liverpool Girls’ High School and Lawrence Hargrave School.

ThinkerShield is the simplest, most reliable way to get started in the exciting world of physical computing. The ThinkerShield is a classroom‑ready tool for STEM and STEAM education.

Its ease of use, robust construction, accessible documentation and variety of onboard components, make it a flexible resource for students at all stages of schooling to engage with professional-standard coding.

We have already created a digital spoon piano in the classroom… stay tuned for more creations!

Consultation dinner

On Monday 19 March 2018 Liverpool Hospital School hosted a consultation dinner with members of our community. This dinner provided the opportunity to consult on our draft plan for the 2018-20 plan report and gain valuable feedback from key stakeholders in our broader community.

Cancer Council Eat it to Beat it program

On Monday 9 April 2018 we had a representative from the Cancer Council visit our classroom to present a session on our healthy lunch box. This session is part of the eat it to beat it program that provides simple, practical advice to help the entire family eat more healthily.

The session emphasised the importance of packing fruit and veg in the lunch box every day, and helped with some easy ideas on how to make this possible.
